Artist Statement

    This artwork entitled Drop explores ideas of weight and reflection. Different strips of fabric, worn and tattered, are tied together and decorated with glass beads and gems. They come together in the form of a wall hanging; long strips of material draping over themselves in a fluid composition. With each long strip of fabric hanging over itself, the gems reflect light off of each other and onto the wall, adding more detail to the piece. 

    Throughout the creative process, I responded to the piece as I progressed. Each detail was placed by hand and required a great deal of strength to allow fabric to pass through the small holes in the glass beads. I gathered a bulk of these long decorated strips and, straying from my original idea, I felt passionate about how they interacted when bunched together. In this relationship, each strip hangs heavy with the weight of the beads yet they all support each other in harmony to create one fluid piece.
